My elderly Mom has a Galaxy A15 (Android version 14). She currently has ONE UI 6.1 installed on her phone. She pushed the update on Tuesday (to update to One UI7) and after it completed it totally locked her phone up. She couldn't even use it, it would BRIEFLY show the home screen, then a pop would come on for some games and I couldn't get it to close. I ended up having to run it in safe mode and un-install the update so that I could get it back operational. But I never could find (under apps or anywhere) this gaming ad that kept coming up. I'm afraid to re-install the UI7 update that it will do it again and I won't be able to get it fixed. Anyone else had anything like this happen and if so, should I install the update, or wait longer?

I just installed the same update for my elderly aunt (90) using my old S22U. I can't control her, but she knows to leave that stuff to me. If you're able, you install the update, not your mother. The update did NOT bring malware to her phone. Like my aunt, your mother probably occasionally clicks on something she shouldn't. (I have to fix her laptop every 4-6 weeks 😂)

Lol, ok, I just wanted to make sure there were no issues with the update. And yes, she's always clicking on things, you're correct. Thank you, I will reinstall the update myself.

How did the ad appear? Did it pop up in a window on the main screen or while in an app? These are Toast ads and there are several apps at the Play Store that will tell you what app is causing them. Search Toast ads, or Toast ad finder, in the Play Store and pick one that you trust. Once identified you can decide if removing the app or removing permissions this app has is the better course of action.

Pop up i guess, she had shut the phone off and it rebooted & when it got to the home screen, this thing took over the whole page, couldn't close it, couldn't minimize it, nothing. So there was no way to do anything, but it seemed to be an ad for games, but like I said I couldn't minimize or close it, just stayed on the screen. I ended up getting it to boot in safe mode & got it off, but I'll definitely look into this (cuz it makes sense, she's constantly playing games). Thanks
